Equipment

  • 1 Cocktail Shaker
  • 1 Jigger or Measuring Tool
  • 1 Strainer
  • 1 Cocktail Glass rocks glass or highball works well

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 8 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 cups 16 oz Simple Syrup
  • 3 cups 24 oz Barbados Rum
  • 4 cups 32 oz Water (or water/juice mix)
  • Hefty dash about ½ oz Angostura Bitters
  • 1 nutmeg for garnish
  • ice
  • 1 lime

Instructions

Chill Your Glass

  • Fill your serving glass with ice to let it chill while you mix the drink.

Measure Your Ingredients (Follow the Rhyme!)

  • Add the fresh lime juice (Sour), simple syrup (Sweet), Barbados rum (Strong), water (Weak), and Angostura bitters directly into your cocktail shaker.

Shake it Up!

  • Fill the shaker about two-thirds full with fresh ice. Secure the lid tightly. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. You want it well-chilled and slightly diluted – the shaker should feel frosty cold!

Strain and Serve

  • Discard the ice from your serving glass. Double strain (using both the shaker’s built-in strainer and a fine mesh strainer) the mixture from the shaker into your chilled glass filled with fresh ice. Double straining catches any small ice chips or lime bits for a smoother drink.

Garnish Like a Pro

  • Grate a generous amount of fresh nutmeg over the top – this aroma is signature Bajan! Add a lime wheel or wedge to the rim, and pop in a cherry if you’re feeling festive.
