Equipment

  • Campfire with hot embers (not direct flames)
  • Metal skewers (long enough to hold the twists over the heat) OR sturdy, clean sticks (prepared by removing bark and sharpening slightly)
  • Heat-resistant gloves or tongs
  • Small bowl for melted butter
  • Small bowl for cinnamon-sugar mixture
  • Brush (for buttering, optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 can 8-12 count refrigerated biscuit dough (e.g., Pillsbury Grands!)
  • 2-4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2-4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: Carefully open the can of biscuit dough. If using large biscuits, you can slice them in half lengthwise to create longer strips.
  • Butter and Spice: Brush each strip of dough with melted butter. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over the buttered dough.
  • Twist the Dough: Twist each strip of dough several times to create a spiral shape.
  • Cook Over Campfire (Skewers): Carefully thread 1-2 twisted dough strips onto each metal skewer. Hold the skewers over the hot campfire embers, rotating them frequently to ensure even cooking and prevent burning. Cook for approximately 5-10 minutes, or until the twists are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Cook Over Campfire (Sticks): Wrap 1-2 twisted dough strips around the end of each clean stick. Hold the sticks over the hot campfire embers, rotating them frequently. Cook for approximately 5-10 minutes, or until the twists are golden brown and cooked through. Be cautious as the sticks can get hot.
  • Serve: Carefully remove the cooked cinnamon twists from the skewers or sticks. Let them cool slightly before enjoying.
